Our team is excited to welcome our two new summer interns, Christine Martinez and Allison Streeker! We cannot wait to see what they can do and are eager to teach them about the inner workings of the public relations industry. Christine is a rising junior at Vanderbilt University, and Allison is a recent graduate of the University of Tampa. They have both shared with us what they hope to gain from their summer!
Christine:
I am a rising junior at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN pursuing a major in Communication Studies with a minor in Corporate Strategy. Upon my return home to Tampa, my goal was to secure a summer internship that would help me make connections and gain professional work experience in the city in which I plan on living and working. My internship with Brock Communications is the fulfillment of this goal. I have heard wonderful things about the team here, and am so excited to work with them!
My hope is that through working here I will discover which aspects of public relations I enjoy the most. Through writing blog posts and press releases my writing skills will be put to the test. I am confident I will become a better writer and one who is proficient in AP style writing. I am also looking forward to creating content for Brock’s many clients on various social media platforms. I am fascinated by how social media grew from a way for individuals to interact on a personal basis into an essential business tool. As technology becomes increasingly prevalent in daily life and smartphones become even more Super Glued to our palms, social media has become the most direct way for companies to communicate with, and advertise to, their clientele. Helping create content with these ends in mind will be an excellent way to gain experience in public relations.
My summer looks bright and I cannot wait to learn all the team here at Brock Communications has to teach me! I look forward to these next few months full of learning and gaining real-world experience.
Allison:
As a recent graduate of The University of Tampa, I’m very excited to be working with Brock Communications! I majored in communications and heard amazing things about Lisa from fellow students and knew I wanted to intern for her company. I was immediately drawn to the strong female presence here and am looking forward to learning from and being mentored by the women in this office.
With all of the services Brock Communications has to offer, I can’t wait to dip my toes in each area of public relations and to learn where my strengths and weaknesses lie. With some blog-writing, Photoshop and web design experience under my belt already, I’m hoping to refine those skills by creating and collaborating on content for clients. I also hope to gain more exposure to publicity and search engine optimization, two growing areas I do not have much experience with.
I’m looking to soak up as much knowledge as possible this summer and to get a better feel for the public relations industry, and I know that I can reach that goal here. I’m a fast learner and a team player with a desire to please, and I’m eager to get started and to show the Brock Comm team what I can do!
